The commission’s action also provides a strong external validation for the Nightingale College’s innovative prelicensure nursing education delivery model. The CCNE Board of Commissioners noted in its accreditation grant communication that the college’s BSN program met all four accreditation standards and key elements for accreditation. Here in Alaska, the numbers are especially grim. That number combined with an aging population and increasing demand is expected to require 1.1 million new Nurses to maintain a strong health care system, according to that same report. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as many as half a million registered nurses could retire in the United States by the year 2022.
